Mitsubishi Electric

The filters are the main thing you can tackle yourself - pull off the front cover, slide out the filters, and give them a wash with some warm soapy water. Do this every few weeks when you're using the system heaps, like during summer or winter peaks.

Everything else though? Best to leave it to the pros. The heat exchanger and coils need proper cleaning once a year, and trust me, you don't want to mess around with the internals. We can put you in touch with techs who know Mitsubishi systems properly - give us a call on 0408 567 860.

For most Melbourne homes? Absolutely. We've fitted these things in everything from tiny inner-city apartments to massive family homes in the suburbs. The beauty of split systems is you only heat or cool the rooms you're actually using.

After 20+ years doing this work around Melbourne, we reckon they're perfect for our climate. Whether you're in a heritage terrace in Fitzroy or a new build in the outer suburbs, we can work out what'll suit your place. Our online quoting system makes it pretty easy to get started - just snap a few photos and we'll sort out what you need.

There's heaps you can do without spending big money:

Close off rooms you're not using and shut curtains during hot days. Get your ceiling fans going to move the air around better. Don't go crazy with the thermostat - 24 degrees for cooling and 20 for heating is plenty comfortable for most people.

Keep your system clean (those filters we mentioned earlier) and get it serviced annually. The Mitsubishi units with i-Save Mode will actually help you save power automatically, which is pretty handy.

Really good, actually. Some of these Mitsubishi systems pump out nearly 6 times more heat than the electricity they use - that's seriously efficient. We see plenty of customers ditching their old gas heaters for reverse cycle splits, especially with rising gas prices.

For Melbourne winters, they're quiet, clean, and don't need any gas connections. Plus you get both heating and cooling in one system, which makes sense financially.

If your system's getting on a bit (10-15 years old), it's probably costing you heaps to run compared to new models. We see this all the time - people stick with old units because they still work, but their power bills are through the roof.

Other red flags: constant repairs, never getting the temperature right, weird smells, or it sounds like a freight train. If you're ticking multiple boxes here, replacement usually works out cheaper than keeping an old unit limping along.

When we quote for new installations, we back our work with a 6-year warranty, so you know you're covered.

That's literally what we do! We handle the whole lot - picking the right unit, getting it delivered, all the electrical and refrigeration work, council compliance, testing everything properly.

Our digital quoting system is pretty unique - upload a few photos of where you want the system installed and you'll get a proper quote within minutes. Been perfecting this approach for 15+ years. No need to wait around for someone to come out and measure up, unless you want us to.

We cover all of Melbourne metro and we're particularly good with apartment installations and body corporate approvals.

Most bedrooms around 4x4 metres work perfectly with a 2.5kW unit. Got a bigger bedroom or one with an open ensuite? Bump it up to 3.5kW.

Living areas that are properly closed off usually need 5-6kW, but ceiling height and how the room's set up makes a difference.

Quick rule of thumb:

• 2.5kW for small bedrooms and studies
• 3.5kW for larger bedrooms or small living areas
• 5-6kW for main living spaces
• 7-8kW for big open plan areas

If you're not sure, our online quote process includes proper sizing based on your photos and room details. Better to get it right the first time than end up with something that struggles or wastes power.

They're among the quietest you can buy - some models run at just 18-19 decibels in quiet mode. That's seriously quiet - quieter than whispering. Perfect for bedrooms.

Energy efficiency is where Mitsubishi really shines. Some models hit 5.5 stars for heating, which means massive savings on your power bills. The newer R32 refrigerant is more efficient and better for the environment than older types.
